 Re: 2010?
I thought Centennial Hall last year was a near-perfect venue, especially considering our location. I think a venue closer to the valley might encourage more attendance, the problem there however is the lack of huge buildings in the valley area. I haven't seen the Mendenhall Mall Annex in a long time, so I don't remember its size. Would that place, if the whole thing was rented, be even remotely big enough? Oh yeah, the space where Gottschalks was -- I highly doubt it, but if it still wasn't occupied by this Fall, any chance of renting that space out? It'd probably be either too expensive, or not possible at all for legal/zoning reasons, but it would make for an awesome venue if it was at all viable. Much more reasonable, I think, would be somewhere on UAS's campus. I remember the old "ultimate" LAN parties from years back, and those were able to fit a decent amount of people. Of course, it's probably too far from a central location to be the best place. Well, those are my ideas for now, hopefully a good venue is found soon!

 Re: 2010?
I guess we should know how many people went to meltdown first. I say that because the one at Centennial Hall was great, but if we went to a more smaller place then should the same setup be used, things might look a little bit more packed? Like there's not going to be a lot room space that Centennial Hall had.
-The old boys and girls club may work (though i might've missed something like a sign and what it said) but I'm sure there are other places that are just as big or similar. Kenji, I know what you're talking about but google failed to help me find a map so I can see the size of the annex. Where is it? If you can explain from the top of your head.
-As for the UAS campus, I got the number for the person to call at the rec center because I was thinking about having a Street Fighter thing going on over there involving UAS students, friends, and others who play fighting games. I had a hard time organizing my thoughts to where I can explain for some reason, but I wanted to know how much it costs to rent and I know there's the option to use the projector in (I'll call it) the commons area. But I'm not sure about having it at the Rec Center unless you are talking about something different kenji. Thats my opinon.

Super Street Fighter 4 please. It's a more refined version of SF4 with new characters. I know for a fact that many gamers in Juneau are hype for this game and are willing to support it to be a Meltdown game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJNORFNlR18Release date is April 27th. Please allow sticks this time. All characters are unlocked at the beginning in this version, so it should be fine. It's a more refined version of SF4 with new characters. If you guys are interested, here are some high-level play videos of SSF4 (final build) http://www.hadoken.net/?p=1407I believe that SF4 is an excellent tournament game. It's the main game of the Evolution Championship Series ( http://evo2k.com/) which is the biggest annual fighting game tournament in the world.

The controllers versus the arcade sticks shouldn't make a difference when it comes to skill. But i know supreme Jd perfers the arcade stick versus the controller. I'm just saying because for some of the people who acutally have arcade sticks, they can get a kind of "arcade tournament" feel to it. I just want to toss that out there. I wanna use an arcade stick, I just dont have the funds to buy one. Sindiewen wrote: I have a few game ideas for this fall for Meltdown 2010 (if it happens):

I remembered my cousin asking if they are going to have Dota (Defense Of The Ancients) or warcraft on the tournament list, is there a chance? -Oh, and i have a question that probably was answered last year. Will i be able to host my own tournament over at meltdown (as long as it dosn't conflict with other schedules?) like either just for fun or for host-provided (I'll provide them) prizes? You know what i mean?

 Re: 2010?
I would definitely come to play Super Street Fighter IV, provided it's available for the Xbox and there aren't any controller limitations. Nearly everybody who plays SFIV and will be playing SSFIV in town has it for the Xbox, and has spent money on an arcade stick for the Xbox. Having it for the PS3 and then not allowing arcade sticks last year was an unfortunate mistake that couldn't be corrected, but since you're still in the planning stages maybe you could make it work this year eh As for the venue, centennial hall worked out pretty good, I think. About the only thing I can think of is there was a lot of empty table space reserved for PC gamers.

 Re: 2010?
I am in full support of Super Street Fighter 4 The game is simply better in every way to its predecessor Street Fighter 4. I also would also like to recommend Tekken 6 and Super Smash Bros Brawl because last year we never had a tournament for either Super Smash Bros Brawl or Tekken 6's prequel Tekken 5 which had me disappointed. =/

 Re: 2010?
@malacas its funny that you brought up Tekken 5 because i remember bringing it there but no one wanted to play except our friend ken. I wanted to have a tekken 5 tournament but I had no idea how to motivate people to play.

 Re: 2010?
Well, since everyone else is coming out of the woodwork to show their support for Super Street Fighter IV, I may as well chime in as well.
As noted above, having the game played on the XBox 360 makes the most sense, as the majority of players that I've met in town have it for that system. Also, the tournament rules almost anywhere you go are "BYOS", or "Bring Your Own Stick". It isn't fair to disallow arcade sticks, as some players (myself included) are so used to them that using the default XBox controller would put them at a disadvantage. The people last year that were calling them an "unfair advantage" don't know what they're talking about. Having an arcade stick does not automatically make you better at the game, and is merely an alternate control scheme that some players prefer (compare it to the different control schemes for playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl, for example).
Speaking of Smash Bros., I'm all for a Brawl tournament. Though, if it really came down to it, I'd actually like a Melee (the Gamecube game) version much better, considering that it's a much more technical and competitive game, in my opinion at least.
